Ένα σπάνιο νόμισμα της Κραννώνος

Στους κύκλους των συλλεκτών και σε έναν οίκο δημοπρασιών εμφανίστηκε το Μάιο του 2006 ένα νόμισμα που εικάζεται ότι προέρχεται απο την περιοχή της Κραννώνος. Στο νόμισμα εικονίζεται στη μία πλευρά ο Ερμής και στην άλλη πλευρά ένας τράγος. Διάφορες εικασίες υπάρχουν για το νόμισμα αυτό, άλλωστε το 2008 εμφανίστηκε ένα δεύτερο νόμισμα σε πιο καλή κατάσταση απο το πρώτο . Είναι εμφανές ότι στο δεύτερο νόμισμα που βρέθηκε το μονόγραμμα παραπέμπει καθαρά στο Κοινό των Αρκάδων. Το πρόβλημα περιπλέκεται αφού γνωρίζουμε οτι η πόλη Φενεός δεν προσχώρησε στην Αρκαδική συμμαχία που δημιουργήθηκε μετά απο τη νίκη του Επαμινόντα επί της Σπάρτης στα Λεύκτρα. Επομένος γιατί η Φενεός να έχει σε ένα νόμισμα με το μονόγραμμα της Αρκαδικής συμμαχίας. Εικάζεται ότι το μονόγραμμα ανήκει σε κάποιον με σημαντική θέση που το όνομα του άρχιζε απο ΑΡΚ. Αλλά και πάλι ο προβληματισμός παραμένει όσο αφορά την εύρεση των νομισμάτων αυτών στη θεσσαλία. Παραθέτουμε στη συνέχεια τα δύο νομίσματα που βρέθηκαν στη Θεσσαλία αλλά και δυο νόμισμα της πόλης Φενεός για να γίνει η σύγκριση. Το πρώτο είναι εκείνο που δημοπρατήθηκε το 2008

1)Lot description:PheneosThe Hermes coinage of Pheneos c. 370-c.340 two chalkoi, c. 360-350/340. 1614.1 (AE, 2.48 g, 16 mm, 1). Similar to the last but with a smaller head of Hermes and no ear of grain. Weber 4318; 1614.2 (AE, 1.80 g, 13 mm, 1). Similar to the last but with to right of the ram. Apparently unpublished. Both very rare and with green patinas. About very fine. (2) 1614.2 said to have been found in Thessaly. This coin poses a problem because the monogram on the reverse seems clearly to be that of the Arkadian League. However, as far as we know Pheneos did not join the newly formed Arkadian League after Epaminondas’ victory over Sparta at Leuctra so why the monogram should appear on a coin of Pheneos is a mystery. A note from BCD: the monogram does not necessarily denote a connection of Pheneos to the Arkadian League. 2)Το δεύτερο δημοπρατήθηκε το 2006

The Hermes coinage of Pheneos c. 370-c.340s Dichalkon (AE, 3.25 g, 16 mm, 11), c. 350s or later. Similar to the last. Rev. Ram standing right; below, monogram of . Extremely rare and apparently unpublished. Dark brown patina. Fine. Said to have been found near Krannon in Thessaly. The Hermes/Ram dichalkoi appear to be very rare and, as noted above, probably were only introduced rather late in the series (none are really similar to the obols or to the chalkoi that clearly can be related to the obols). A single piece turned up at Nemea (1958: its condition was too poor for any added letters to be read and it was, in fact, mistakenly classed as a chalkous).
